30 Works for 30 Years

The Michener Art Museum Turns 30

May 12, 2016

The Michener turns 30 in 2018. To celebrate, the museum has set a goal to expand its collection with 30 major acquisitions - one for every year the museum has been open to the public. They are already working with donors and collectors, and have identified one painting in particular as an exciting possibility for the Michener's 30th anniversary list.
“Dream Fantasy” is a rare early work by Henriette Wyeth (1907-99), the daughter of N.C. Wyeth and his self-described "most talented" child. Henriette, along with her husband Peter Hurd, will be the subject of the Michener's future exhibition, “Magical & Real: Henriette Wyeth and Peter Hurd, A Retrospective,” on view from Dec. 2, 2017 through March 25, 2018. With the assistance of the Wyeth Hurd Gallery in Santa Fe, N.M., the museum has the opportunity to purchase the work for the collection but needs to raise $35,000.
The Michener is undertaking a crowdfunded effort to bring “Dream Fantasy” to Doylestown permanently, and to help kick off the museum's 30th anniversary year.
