Abner Zook Diorama Sells For $14,300 At Witman Auctioneers Sale

Witman Auctioneers conducted an auction on March 6 for the late J. Richard Kreider and Polly Kreider, Charles Parmer Jr. and others of Lancaster County, Pa. There was a large crowd with over 180 registered bidders.
A few of the highlights included an Abner Zook three-dimensional diorama, which sold for $14,300. Also, a 1947 Packard in non-running condition sold for $9,350.
The late Zook was born in 1921. He created around 800 three-dimensional works during his lifetime. His work encompasses a combination of sculpture and painting. Many are quite large and extremely heavy. His brother Aaron also made intricate, highly detailed dioramas. Their subject matter typically depicted scenes of rural living in Lancaster and Berks counties.
Among other items sold were a grouping of Chevy license plates for $1,540, a Bassett cherry bedroom suite for $935, a John Deere LT 160 mower that brought $770, and a wooden horse weathervane (missing its tail) that sold for $495. A refinished low drysink sold for $410, a modern grandfather clock sold for $410, and a box of NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt collectible paper goods sold for $255.
