Dan Morphy Auctions Acquires James D. Julia's Antique Advertising, Toy And Doll Division
"Morphy's is excited to welcome Julia's past consignors and clients to our company," said Morphy. "We have long admired Julia's sterling reputation for honesty and fair dealings with their clients, and we look forward to serving their clients in the future."
Based in Fairfield, Maine, James D. Julia Inc., is headed by president and auctioneer James D. Julia, who established the firm in 1974 after buying a smaller auction operation from his father, Arthur Julia. Since then, the firm has distinguished itself not only in the sale of toys, dolls and antique advertising, but also in several other specialties that will continue to function as the cornerstones of Julia's business.
Julia commented that the sale of his company's Antique Advertising, Toy and Doll division to Morphy's "made tremendous sense" in light of his own expansion plans.
"I have watched Dan's company grow over the years, have admired his success and always found him to be a great competitor," said Julia. "In my mind, Dan's company is the leader in the world today for toys, advertising and coin op, etc. I thus felt that my past customers would best be served by his firm."
Another consideration that led Julia to conclude that Morphy Auctions was the right choice was Dan Morphy's willingness to provide a position for some of his company's "long-term, loyal consultants." Among them is Jay Lowe, an expert consultant to Julia's who played a key role in the production of many of the companys most successful toy, doll and coin-op sales.
