Jewelry Dazzles Bidders At Cordier's Spring Antique And Fine Art Auction

A Rolex GMT-Master Chronometer sold for $13,000, a diamond and sapphire bracelet brought $7,500, and a Lebanon tall case clock sold for $6,000 at Cordier Auctions' Spring Antique and Fine Art Auction held May 16 and 17. Other highlights from the more than 1,000 lots offered at the company's auction house in Harrisburg, Pa., included a collection of Hummels and a trio of paintings by Karl Kasberger (Austrian, 1891-1969). Day one featured coins, collectibles, silver, jewelry, and Hummels. A highlight in the coin category was a group of nine Chinese Zodiac 10 Yuan Silver coins for $2,200. In collectibles, a Dentzel-style carousel cat drew bidders in the room as well as multiple phone bidders. It sold to a phone bidder for $1,200 on an estimate of $1,000-$1,500.
A large portion of day one was dedicated to fine jewelry, including numerous designer pieces. Among the highlights was a Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master Chronometer circa 1967, which sold for $13,000 to a phone bidder after heavy competition. A Deco 4.26 CTW diamond and sapphire bracelet sold for $7,500 on an estimate of $4,000-$6,000, and an 18-carat Giovane diamond and enameled suite was awarded to a floor bidder for $3,600 amid heavy interest. The top lots in jewelry were rounded out by an 18-carat Roberto Coin giraffe suite, which sold for $3,700, and a pair of 6.41 CTW diamond and pearl drop earrings, which garnered much interest before selling for $3,400.
"We were very pleased with the diverse selection of high quality fine jewelry, and the bidders responded with enthusiasm," said David Cordier, owner of Cordier Auctions.
Day one concluded with over 130 lots of Hummels, many in unusual large sizes and collector's editions. Buyers from multiple states were on-site to bid on the figurines, and the collection totaled over $26,000. Bidding was active, and the high lot among these was an 8-inch "Picture Perfect" figurine, which sold for $900.
Day two featured furniture, ethnographic and decorative arts, ceramics and glass, and fine art. An eight-day tall case clock by G. Oves, Lebanon, Pa., garnered $6,000. A stunning KPM porcelain plaque depicting Orpheus and Eurydice sold to the floor after spirited bidding for $3,300. The day concluded with fine art, which featured a trio of oil paintings by Karl Kasberger (Austrian, 1891-1969), which sold for $3,200 following active bidding online.
