Offerings From Ned And Gwen Foltz's Personal Collection To Be Sold April 18

Witman Auctioneers is pleased to announce an important pottery, painted furniture, and folk art auction on Saturday, April 18, from the prolific personal collection of Ned and Gwen Foltz. The auction will begin at 9 a.m. and will be held at the Reinholds Banquet Hall, located at 138 Main St. in Reinholds, Pa. Reinholds is a small town in northern Lancaster County.
Ned Foltz is a former teacher and long-time redware potter in Reinholds. The couple has a vast collection of high quality antiques and contemporary folk art. Foltz holds regular shows selling his work at their school house studio.

The auction will include a large selection of Stahl pottery. Stahl was the last of a fourth generation line of old-time potters, which featured Thomas Stahl, Isaac Stahl, Russell Stahl, and Charles Stahl. The family worked in Powder Valley, Pa. Pieces to be sold date from the 1800s to 1962.
Also featured will be Schofield pottery from Henry and John Schofield, the last of the large-scale potters to use a wood-fired kiln. There will also be a large Southern vase with grape decoration by Meaders, as well as a Jacob Medinger unglazed double-handled vase.
Folk art carvings will include work by Daniel Strawser Sr., Keith Collis, and Jonathan Bastian.
Other highlights will be an original Hattie Brunner fall scene watercolor, Stiegel glass, and rye straw baskets. Painted furniture will include a Moravian corner cupboard that Ned purchased from Hattie Brunner, a Lebanon County blanket chest, and a red painted jelly cupboard.
