Wedgwood International Seminar, "Collecting In The Capital," Slated

April 8, 2014

Wedgwood enthusiasts from the U.S. and abroad will gather in Old Town Alexandria, Va., for the 59th Annual Wedgwood International Seminar (WIS). It has been a dozen years since the WIS came to the Washington, D.C., area. The "Collecting In The Capital" conference is scheduled for Wednesday to Saturday, April 23 to 26, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Among the scholars and collectors presenting lectures are Dr. Anne Forschler-Tarrasch, curator of decorative arts, Birmingham Museum of Art; Dr. Nancy Ramage, professor emeritus, Ithaca College; Robert Hunter, editor at Ceramics in America; Peggy Kerner, historian and collector; and Lorraine Horn, collector and former WIS president.
The topics are varied but all are Wedgwood-centric from the wares to places in history to depictions in print. Attendees will enjoy illustrated talks on "Wedgwood at the World's Fair," "Wedgwood and the Etruscans," "Origins of Wedgwood Agateware," "Shedding Light on Wedgwood Lamps," and "Collecting Wedgwood Postcards."
In addition, there will be visits to two private Wedgwood collections at homes in Fairfax County, Va. Also slated is a special session remembering the late "Lord Wedgwood," Fourth Baron of Barlaston, and dear friend to Wedgwoodians the world over, who passed away on January 29. The week's event will offer opportunities to purchase Wedgwood from member dealers and, as always, the pleasure of meeting new ceramics enthusiasts and reuniting with fellow collectors. Ample free time has been built in this year for visiting the sights in the Capital city and surrounding region.
The lectures, receptions, banquet, lunches, and tours are all inclusive under the registration fee.
